So the Lord God said to the serpent,
“Because you have done this,
Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.”

“I will be his father, and he will be my son. …
I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever;
his throne will be established forever.”

For God so loved the world that he gave
his one and only Son, that whoever believes
in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Joy to the World, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy To the World, lyrics by Isaac Watts, 1719)
